Shilpa Bhansali, Ph.D.

Consultant, Life Sciences Licensing and Physical Sciences Licensing

Dr. Bhansali supports the commercialization of technologies in the physical sciences, primarily from the Department of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering.

Carole Burns, Ph.D.

Associate Director of Licensing

Dr. Burns is primarily responsible for managing and commercializing intellectual property emerging from The School of Veterinary Medicine, The School of Dental Medicine and the School of Nursing; she also facilitates industry interactions with these schools.

Helene Hart

Senior Contracts Administrator, Life Sciences Licensing

Ms. Hart negotiates confidential disclosure agreements and provides administrative support for the Director of Life Sciences.

Lauren Miller, Ph.D.

Associate Director, Life Sciences Licensing

Dr. Miller is responsible for the management and commercialization of technologies in the life sciences licensing group.

Robert H. Schenkel, Ph.D.

Director of Licensing

Dr. Schenkel leads the PCI Life Sciences Licensing Group in the Central Office. His responsibilities include: reviewing invention disclosures, supporting the patent protection process, as well as marketing and licensing of life sciences technologies.

Dustin Shilling, Ph.D.

Licensing Officer, PSOM Licensing Group

Dr. Shilling is responsible for the management and commercialization of new technology opportunities developing by investigators in the Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM) and the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS), and facilitating relationships between these investigators and industry partners.

Administrative Assistant/Office Coordinator

Ms. Petras supports the Director and the overall operation of the PCI PSOM office.

Trude J. Amick, Ph.D.

Director, Engineering, Physical and Applied Sciences Office

Dr. Amick is responsible for managing the Engineering, Physical and Applied Sciences Office. She is also responsible for the management and commercialization of technologies in chemistry, computer information science, psychology, radiation oncology and radiology.

Pamela Beatrice, Ph.D.

Senior Associate Director, Engineering, Physical and Applied Sciences Office

Dr. Beatrice is primarily responsible for the management and commercialization of technologies in material science, physics, and radiology.

Ryne DuBose is primarily responsible for the management and commercialization of technologies in mechanical engineering, applied mechanics, electrical systems engineering, chemical engineering, and physics.

Althea Stillman, Ph.D.

Licensing Officer, Engineering, Physical and Applied Sciences Office

Dr. Stillman is primarily responsible for the management and commercialization of technologies in bioengineering, biomolecular engineering, biology, and chemistry.

Cortney McClees

Administrative Coordinator, Engineering, Physical and Applied Sciences Office

Ms. McClees provides administrative support for all aspects of technology licensing and commercialization to the SEAS/SAS Licensing group.

James W. Bowen, Ph.D.

Director, CAR Alliance

Dr. Bowen directs the CAR Alliance IP and License Team and is responsible for Penn’s contractual, intellectual property and licensing obligations, and associated interactions with both internal and external stakeholders under Penn’s alliance with CAR for development and commercialization of CAR T-cell technologies. Dr. Bowen is also responsible for management, partnering and commercialization of certain new technologies developed by Life Sciences faculty at Penn.

Jeannine Days

Senior Contracts Manager, CAR Alliance

Ms. Days is primarily responsible for managing and coordinating the initial review, assignment and close-out process for all new agreement requests, grant and publications reviews and other projects undertaken by the CAR Alliance IP and Licensing Team. Ms. Days also principally works on drafting and negotiation of confidentiality agreements, material transfer agreements, task orders and material transfer records for the CAR Alliance IP and Licensing Team.

Mark Engleka, Ph.D.

Associate Director, CAR Alliance

Dr. Engleka is responsible for supporting Penn’s contractual, intellectual property and licensing obligations under the Penn’s Alliance with CAR for development and commercialization of CAR T-cell technologies. Dr. Engleka is responsible for reviewing publications, presentations, grant applications and new invention disclosures to assess for new intellectual property. He is also primarily responsible for negotiation and structuring of partnering, collaboration, material transfer, service agreements and other agreements with 3rd parties related to the Alliance.

Man Liang, Ph.D.

Licensing Officer, CAR Alliance

Dr. Liang is responsible for supporting Penn’s contractual, intellectual property and licensing obligations under the Penn’s Alliance with CAR for development and commercialization of CAR T-cell technologies. Dr. Liang is responsible for reviewing publications, presentations, grant applications and invention disclosure to assess for new intellectual property. She is responsible for negotiation and structuring of partnering, collaboration, material transfer, service agreements and other agreements with 3rd parties related to the Alliance.

Dennis O'Donnell

Contracts Administrator, CAR Alliance

Mr. O’Donnell principally works on drafting and negotiation of confidentiality agreements, material transfer agreements, task orders and material transfer records for the CAR Alliance IP and Licensing Team, as well as facilitating final execution of all agreements for the Team. Mr. O’Donnell is also responsible for acquisition of additional information related to new agreements as necessary and as requested by other members of the Team.

Marisa Tsikitas

Administrative Assistant, CAR Alliance

Ms. Tsikitas is responsible for providing administrative support for the CAR Alliance IP and Licensing Team and also facilitates final execution of all agreements for the Team. Ms. Tsikitas also plays an integral role in updating both internal and external databases, provides meeting agenda / minutes documentary support to the Team and supports the negotiation of CDAs, MTA, task orders and material transfer records.

Ms. Figueroa is responsible for providing legal advice and contractual support to the CAR Alliance IP and Licensing Team at PCI and to Penn faculty and staff involved in the Alliance.

Ms. Wambach is responsible for providing legal advice and contractual support to the CAR Alliance IP and Licensing Team at PCI and to Penn faculty and staff involved in the Alliance.

Michael Poisel

Director, PCI Ventures

Mr. Poisel is responsible for identifying technologies that are candidates for PCI Ventures support and for the UPstart program, transitioning the technologies into start-up companies, assisting the principal investigators with funding strategies including grant applications, as well as the structuring and negotiating licensing deals with the start-up companies.

Dora Mitchell, Ph.D.

Assistant Director, PCI Ventures

Dr. Mitchell is responsible for working directly with PCI Ventures and UPstart portfolio company management teams to develop business strategies, fund raising plans, marketing materials, and commercialization grant applications in order to increase the overall visibility of the portfolio.

Adrienne McDonnell

Marketing & Logistics Specialist, PCI Ventures

Ms. McDonnell is responsible for managing the company formation process for PCI Ventures and UPstart companies, developing UPstart company logos, websites and marketing materials, and providing administrative support to the PCI Ventures team.

Karina Sotnik

Senior Consultant, PCI Ventures

Ms. Sotnik is responsible for helping PCI Ventures, UPstart and UPstart companies with marketing and business development activities. She is also responsible for creating custom programs within PCI Ventures and UPstart.

Tomás Isakowitz, PhD

PCI Fellows Program Director

Dr. Isakowitz established and runs the PCI Fellows program, which provides experiential education to Penn graduate and post-doctoral students. Isakowitz also teaches classes on technology commercialization and entrepreneurship.

Senior Business Systems Analyst

Responsible for the overall planning, organizing, and execution of all PCI IT functions. This includes directing all IT operations to meet enterprise requirements as well as the support and maintenance of existing applications and development of new technical solutions.

Cara Griffin

Ms. Griffin supports invention disclosure review, patent filing, prosecution and maintenance, and negotiates inter-institutional agreements.

Jennifer Langenberger

Ms. Langenberger oversees all components of IP protection, including management of invention disclosure review, patent filing, prosecution and maintenance for PCI.

Assistant Director

Ms. McSorley manages invention disclosure, review, patent filing, prosecution and maintenance as well as return to inventor requests.

Jacqueline Miraglia

Ms. Miraglia administers the trademark licensing program, licence compliance, and government compliance for federally funded inventions.

Rose Garrity

Financial Administrative Coordinator

Ms. Garrity manages financial activities relating to license agreement obligations; cash receipts and BEN deposits; Accounts Payable; IDS and Travel reimbursements; Procard statements; petty cash; payroll and PennWorks.

Frank LaRosa, MBA

Director

Mr. LaRosa manages the PCI Finance Group and is responsible for all aspects of financial activities relating to license agreements; cash collections; PCI equity portfolio; reporting requirements; budgets and forecasts; financial procedures; various human resources functions.

Lee Ann Morgan, CPA

Finance Manager

Ms. Morgan manages financial activities relating to license agreements including accounts receivable, revenue recognition, accruals, valuation of PCI equity portfolio, monthly PCI financial and management reporting requirements, and documentation and implementation of PCI financial procedures.

Kathryn Nutt, CPA

Accountant/Financial Analyst

Ms. Nutt is responsible for financial activities relating to license agreements including accounts receivable (invoicing, cash collections, etc.), royalty audits and financial analyses; she also documents and implements PCI financial procedures and provides customer support to licensees, departments and schools.

Kerry Vanderslice

Ms. Vanderslice supports the Associate Vice Provost and Executive Director of PCI. She also provides administrative and human resources support, and general office support.
